Meditation Techniques
There are so many different meditate techniques to connect you with your higher self. You can meditate by yourself, with others, in silence, or aloud. You can also work with a guide on any of the techniques listed below if you don’t feel confident practicing them yourself.
Meditation produces theta waves and alpha waves in the brain. Theta Waves cause us to feel spacey and in a dream-like state, while Alpha Waves are produced when we are fully present. Therefore, through meditation we can observe our thoughts, align our energy and expand our consciousness. Physically, our bodies feel refreshed and energized. Meditating can also increase our focus, help us with patience and clear negative emotions we may be holding. Meditation works for absolutely everyone- all it takes is a little time to honor yourself.

1. Being Present Meditation
Your eyes certainly do not have to be closed to meditate, although this is a highly recommended method for transcending external surroundings. One way to meditate is to merely become aware of yourself and your surroundings. Focus on becoming more and more aware and feel yourself being drawn into the present moment. Consciously move your fingers and toes and focus on simply one small, beautiful thing at a time. Taking the time to slow down and be present has been proven to actually help us be more productive, sleep better and feel happier. Did I mention that meditating increases both serotonin and dopamine in your brain?
Now, if you’d like, you can sit or lie flat down on your back with your eyes closed. Notice any thoughts that come to mind and observe them without judgement. Try to clear your mind and smile. Next, smile with your liver, and then your whole body. Maintain a clear mind meditation to reduce stress and anxiety or to find and hold your center for a while. Practicing this daily will increase your focus, happiness and overall physical health.
2. Visualization Meditation
Visualization meditation is where you may sit with your eyes closed and envision yourself in a serene space. You can visualize anything that makes you feel good. The point of this exercise is to vibrate with gratitude! Envision a person you love, a place you’d like to visit or something you love to do. Feel all the good feelings- feel grateful. Focus on this feeling and feel it expand. You’re tuning your energy when you do this!
Through visualization, you can also tune into your chakras. One of my favorite morning meditations is to visualize the energy centers one at a time. Begin by visualizing your red root chakra, a red ball of energy. Perhaps it’s sturdy and bright, mixed with another color, or in need of some love. Focus on shifting the energy wheel to the brightest, happiest red that you can and hold this vibration. You may notice things pop up in your head or heart space. Release them with love. Continue this work patiently with the rest of your chakras. This practice cleanses and charges your energy body. Check out Chakra Healing for more information.
3. Movement Meditation
A great way to meditate is through focused movement. By practicing something like yoga, qigong, or dance you are putting your consciousness in a meditative state while remaining aware of your body. Movement meditation contains many parts as you fine tune your body awareness, aligning it with your mental and astral bodies. In qigong, you practice physically directing the flow of energy in your body. Yoga is wonderful for creating space within your larger muscle groups, and dance is great for strengthening your energy field. All of these practices will strengthen your body, improve your flexibility and send you into a meditative state. As our most capable divination tool, learning to consciously merge the spirit with the body allows us to be more present in our daily lives.
4. Journeying Meditation
Journeying is exactly what it sounds like- traveling with your spirit or astral body. To do this, you’ll want to have a stabilized and protected energy field around you. Use visualization to create a bubble of white light around your body. If you don’t feel confident journeying alone, you can ask a spirit guide to assist you. Your meditation guide can be a person here on Earth, an ascended master, angel, animal, or guide of any sort. When you journey, you enter the astral realm through conscious meditation. You may meet one of your guides in the place of their choosing and if you are open to it, you can receive downloads or experience other realms. I usually ask to be shown what I need to learn to evolve, but you can also ask for light on a particular subject too. Personally, I try to keep Earthly matters out of my journeying intentions because it allows me to receive higher vibrational messages, access akashic records, and see beyond the veil. Journeying may take some patience, but it is an amazing way to open your third eye, crown, and out of body chakras, depending on how advanced your practice is! If you feel inclined and your energy feels protected, don’t be afraid to explore your out of body chakras. I’m sure they’ve been waiting to hear from you. 😉
5. Divination Meditation
Meditation and divination are two sides of the same coin. When we meditate, we decalcify our pineal glands, open our chakras, and simultaneously develop our clair-abilities. We can receive the same messages from the same guides through meditation as we can through divination. However, with divination, we encourage these messages to come to us in physical form by using tools such as tarot, numerology, viewing, astrology, or crystals. By developing our clair-abilities, we are able to deepen our experience and channel messages more and more clearly. Since we are made of energy, we have access to everything else made out of energy- an entire interdimensional universe. With this in mind, if you seek further clarification in your own practices, you can always get a reading. Try reading someone else’s energy in some way, with permission of course, to have a spherical understanding of this dynamic.
While these are only five of the infinite ways to meditate, taking time to do so daily has numerous benefits- even if it’s just for fifteen minutes. If you ever need a meditation guide, please don’t be afraid to reach out.
